WARSHIP

It’s hard to imagine a sound even heavier and more musically challenging than that of Long Island metalcore innovators From Autumn To Ashes, until you hear Warship, the crushing new project by FATA members Francis Mark (vocals/drums) and Rob Lauritsen (guitar/bass). The duo’s forthcoming Vagrant Records debut, Supply And Depend, showcases a startling union of imagination and brutality for a lethal sonic arsenal entirely set apart from the signature attack of their former band.

“I don’t think a lot of people were expecting this. When I said I was starting a new band, people thought I was going to go in a more mellow direction,” says Mark. “It’s definitely a lot more blown-out, and raw, and with more driving rhythms and ugliness than we ever did with.”

Mike Aitken Benefit Street Jam

Levi

Levi

The BIBS brainchild, and very unique street comp kicked off tonight at Rhodes skatepark. Eight teams of three people were drawn at random, came

ras were given out, and we recieved our marching orders. Throughout the next week, Boise’s local street shredders will be attacking the list of spots, clicking photos on the disposable cameras that were handed out and helping a fellow bike rider in need in the process. Once the photos are all developed, in about two weeks or so, they will be posted on BIBSweb, as well as right here at 20″ Rev. People will have a week or so to vote, and the winners will be announced. For now, enjoy some pictures I took tonight at the kickoff jam.

There are also myriad ways to donate to the Mike Aitken fund, including through BIBS or online at 5050 bmx or mikeaitken.com. From what I understand, donations to help our friend Mike and his family get him back to shredding have been pouring in from around the world. It’s a testament to the community we have as bmxers.

Get well soon, Mike!

Levi!

Street Photo Comp

That’s right, this year Levi and the crew at BIBS are putting together a slightly different kind of contest. Here’s the skinny:

Contestants will meet up for a BBQ at Fort, at a time to be determined, and at which time, teams of four will recieve a disposable camera. Everyone will then have a week to fill up the camera, taking pictures of at least ten different street spots. The developed photos will then be posted on the BIBS site for everyone to vote on (the second most important vote you will cast in November). Prizes from BIBS and maybe others will be awarded for such categories as best trick for certain spots, best overall pic, funniest, most creative and best team portfolio.

If you’re wondering why everyone has to shoot with a crappy disposable camera instead of your 10 MP DSLR camera with 10.5 mm Nikkor DX Fisheye lens, well it’s simple. Not everyone has your bitchin’ camera setup, and this way, the field is level, so to speak, and the riding and photo conception will have to rise above the age of wide-angle lenses and Photoshop. If you ask me, it’s a pretty cool idea.

So keep posted for updates, like I said, the start date hasn’t been set in stone quite yet, and all I really know is it will most likely be at Fort (where else), there will be BBQ and there will also be a $10 entry fee per team (to pay for the cameras and the BBQ).

Best of

I don’t know if anyone has happened to pick up Boise Weekly’s “Best Of” issue yet, but when browsing through it, I noticed that while Fort was listed as the editor’s choice for best skatepark, amongst it’s flaws listed was the fact that it allowed bikes.
